Hannah makes them a few at a time from wax that came out of a friend's hives here in the valley. Nothing added. They smell faintly of honey and burn with a warm, steady flame.

Dipped, not poured
Built up one layer at a time.
A taper is dipped, hung to cool, and dipped again, over and over, until it is the size it should be. It takes an evening and it shows: the candle is dense, burns slowly and hardly drips in still air.

Wax the bees made, and nothing else.
- It smells like honey
- Faintly, the way the inside of a hive does. No added scent, so a room never smells of vanilla cupcake, just of a candle burning.
- It burns slow and bright
- Beeswax melts at a higher temperature than soy or paraffin. A taper lasts longer and the flame sits warmer and steadier.
- Nothing added
- No paraffin, no soy, no dye, no fragrance oil. The colour is the colour of the wax, and it changes a little from batch to batch because the hives do.
- From a friend's hives
- The wax comes from Paxton's bees at As It Is In Heaven, about 500 hives on organic farms around the Treasure Valley. Raw, unfiltered, never shipped.
- Dipped, not poured
- Each taper is built up one thin layer at a time, dipped and hung to cool and dipped again. The twisted ones are two of those, wound together while the wax is still warm.
- The white film is a good sign
- Pure beeswax grows a soft bloom as it sits. Wipe it, warm it away, or leave it. Cut wax never does that.
